Derby City, as an Opportunity Area, is currently developing employer engagement, auditing all the employment and career options available to the young people in the City and putting together an action plan for improvement.
Students at St Andrew's School are exposed to "The world of work" from Year 7 until they leave the school. The curriculum is designed to equip students with the knowledge, skills and understanding about the world of work.
In Key Stage 3 students learn about the jobs that people do; in Key Stage 4 students start in-school work placements having completed application forms and practiced interview techniques.
As students move to our Post 16 department, the focus is on preparation for adulthood and possible employment routes post school. Students will undertake in-school work experience placements as well as placements with local businesses where appropriate.
We work with external agencies such as MENACP and CEC who deliver sessions looking at basic life skills in the workplace and work readiness for our students.
