Welcome to Islay!
Hello and welcome to Islay class!
Based at St Andrew's College Campus, Islay class is currently made up of 7 students, in their final year at St Andrew's School. The focus for these year 14 students is on preparation for leaving St Andrew's in July 2019. Emphasis is placed on further developing the student's independent living skills through participation in a wide range of activities and learning experiences. Over the course of the year students will have the opportunity to participate in work experience placements, daily meal preparation, arts and crafts projects and learning about themselves and the wider world.
Islay class students have been adjusting to life in year 14-spending time thinking about Post 19 provisions available to them when they leave us. They have identified their strengths, interests and areas where support is needed in order for them to reach their potential. They are currently visiting some of these provisions with their parents and guardians, and will be visiting many more with us in the very near future. It's a daunting time, but an important time and also a fun and inspiring time.
Since joining us the students have been personalising their classroom and are creating a bespoke learning space, stained glass windows based upon each student and their interests-these are a working progress as we have four huge spaces to fill but they are looking great and the students are very happy with them.
Our next project will be a textile wall hanging with the theme of life in Islay class-so watch this space!
